Japanese Rooster

Sumi-e, Japanese mineral pigment, casein, oil pastel

I have studied traditional East Asian art, including ink painting and calligraphy, in Tokyo, Japan and Hangzhou China, and I currently teach Sumie at the Torpedo Factory. In addition to traditional works based on nature I often do cityscapes, landscapes and animals. I sometimes like to use these techniques to depict American scenes. the idea is to apply what I have learned to what I see and sense here.
