Hand cut, wall hung collage; small art journals
Using a large variety of materials, I've been making Collage and 3D Assemblage for over 20 years. To me, the exciting challenges and gifts of working with mixed media are the endless expressive and narrative possibilities this type of work offers. In 2024, I began making small, one- of- a- kind Art Journals comprised of about 80 small collages in book form. I make natural dyes with avocados, coffee, rust, etc, and use many types of paper. I also have a passion for making 2.5” x 3.5” collages. This very small format can be difficult to get your hands into and make a statement with, but that is why I like it. I began to realize, though, that overthinking was impacting and slowing down all these efforts. As a response, I challenged myself to make 50 collages, approximately 11”x14”, with just the materials at hand. No research or specific topics. I began in January, 2026. This “two steps forward, one step back” stream of conscience process has been very freeing! I’m happy they will soon be ready to display.
