Agateware Tumblers

ceramics

Julie is an avid crafter and lifelong learner whose creative journey has evolved from exploring a wide range of tactile arts (like knitting, sewing, crocheting, soap-making, and painting) to finding her artistic voice in clay during the last decade. Her background in industrial-organizational psychology and adult education informs her approach to teaching/studio management as well as her own art, seen in the inclusive, curiosity-driven space for students at Shoulder Cat Studio. Julie's ceramic work is rooted in function (especially dinnerware) but also pushes the limits of utility with sculptural and conceptual forms, such as teapots with elaborate, unconventional handles. Always a learner, she works across specialties in ceramics, such as wheel throwing, handbuilding, slip casting, and more, drawing inspiration from her culture, upbringing, and experiences. This constant exploration is at the heart of both Julie's personal practice and her commitment to helping others grow creatively.
